2016 Chevy Volt

I’m not in the business of promoting any one EV, but since I drive a 2011 Chevy Volt, I do know more about the Volt than other EVs.  And I have to say, I’m very happy with our Volt and its performance over the 75,000 miles/5 years we’ve had it.

But now the 2016 Volt is out, and I have to admit, it has made a lot of improvements.  Here’s a list:

  • Price is down to $34,000 compared to the $40,000 we paid (plus there are now $9000 in state and federal tax credits, while we only had $7500)
  • Miles per charge is up from around 37 to closer to 50
  • Miles per gallon, once the batteries are used, are 40, compared to 37 mpg on our car
  • The Volt now uses regular gas; we use premium
  • The car has seating for 5; ours has seating for 4
  • There are lots of new safety features:  “Lane Keep Assist”, “Rear cross alert”, and “Auto Brake”

So I’m a little jealous, but all of this is not enough to make me want to trade in our car, which is fully paid off!  I’m happy to see all these improvements, but I’m waiting for the self-driving model to replace our car.  That will be worth the upgrade!
