Description
The 13th edition of the Summer School in Cinema Human Rights and Advocacy is a training initiative jointly developed by EIUC and CHRA. The 10-day intense training is aimed at young professionals wishing to broaden their understanding on the connections between human rights, films, digital media and video advocacy, to share ideas and foster participatory and critical thinking on urgent human rights issues, debate with experts and filmmakers from all over the world during the 75th Venice international Film Festival and learn how to use films as a tool for social and cultural change.
EIUC launched the summer school programme in 2005 and was meant to be a one-off event but given the success of that initial programme, the summer school ran for another four years in Venice before moving in 2010 to the Huston School of Film & Digital Media part of the National University of Ireland in Galway where it flourished for other six years. In 2017 the Summer School returned to its birthplace in Venice.
Eligibility
In order to be considered eligible to apply, you must fulfill all of the following criteria:
Target: Graduates, professionals of the human rights, media, NGO and advocacy sector and anyone who uses or is interested in using audio-visual media as a tool for promoting social change are encouraged to apply to the Summer School.
The School selects a maximum of 30 participants.
Eligibility: Participants are selected on the basis on their motivation, practice and commitment to human rights, advocacy and media issues as well as their background and professional experiences. Gender and regional balance is taken into account in order to form a heterogenous group.
Course language: all courses will be held in English. It is, therefore, essential that all participants understand and speak English fluently.
Certificate: All participants attending the course will receive a certificate of participation upon completion of the course including attendance to selected festival screenings
Costs
The enrolment fee the Summer School in Cinema, Human Rights, and Advocacy is € 2100,00 and it includes:
- Tuition fee
- Lunches and coffee breaks on class days
- Accommodation in a shared double room for 10 nights (check in 26 August – check out 5 September) in Venice
