DESCRIPTION<\/h1>\n

The Academy<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0was established in 2013 by the\u00a0Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights \u2013 Research Association<\/strong>\u00a0(BIM-FV) based in Vienna. Cooperation partners of the Academy are the\u00a0Faculty of Law of the University of Vienna<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Universities from the Western Balkan region<\/strong>, this year the\u00a0Faculty of Law of the University of Tirana<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The main facilitator of the Academy is the\u00a0Straniak Foundation<\/strong>. The Foundation contributes to the promotion of the goals, ideas and values of the European Convention on Human Rights in particular in East and Southeast European countries. The Academy is also supported by the\u00a0Central European Initiative (CEI)<\/strong>, and various companies and law firms from Albania and Austria. The Austrian Embassies in Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina also provided their support.<\/p>\n

Aim and concept of the Academy<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The goal of the Academy is to\u00a0promote academic education on democracy, the rule of law and human rights in the Western Balkans<\/strong>, which is the regional focus of the Academy. The Academy establishes a link connecting theory and practice, promoted through an\u00a0interdisciplinary and interactive format<\/strong>. To keep up with political, legal and social changes and to ensure the Academy\u2019s continuous relevance for future professionals, one part of the Programme sets its focus on current topics of European and international importance.<\/p>\n

Who teaches?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Lecturers of the Straniak Academy are\u00a0experienced professors, regional and international experts and practitioners with various academic backgrounds<\/strong>. Each lecture is held by two lecturers, one from an EU Member State and one from the Western Balkan region or other countries. Through this concept of\u00a0\u201ctandem teaching\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0the lecturers elaborate a topic from different perspectives and approaches, and this way provide a wider and differentiated understanding. The students will not only have the opportunity to listen to presentations, but also be actively involved in the lectures and invited to participate in discussions, working groups, round tables and<\/p>\n
