The deadline for completed applications is September 15, 2022. The 2023 WPI fellows wil be announced in early December 2022.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"et_pb_button_module_wrapper et_pb_button_0_wrapper et_pb_module \"><strong><a class=\"et_pb_button et_pb_button_0 et_pb_bg_layout_dark\" href=\"http:\/\/worldpressinstitute.org\/application\/instructions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">APPLY<\/a><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<h5 class=\"et_pb_toggle_title\">Eligibility<\/h5>\n<div class=\"et_pb_toggle_content clearfix\">\n<ul>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">At least five years of full-time employment in print, broadcast or online journalism, including:<\/span>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">News or editorial departments of newspapers, wire services, radio, television, websites or online publications.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Photojournalists, editorial cartoonists, columnists and broadcast producers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Those who supervise journalists are eligible if they also have at least five years as a working journalist.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Any journalism-related work completed as a university student does not count toward experience. Those who work in public relations or at organizations whose primary business is not the media are not eligible.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Must be currently employed as a non-U.S. journalist working outside of the United States.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Fluency in both written and spoken English.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Potential for leadership.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5 class=\"et_pb_toggle_title\">Fellowship Terms<\/h5>\n<div class=\"et_pb_toggle_content clearfix\">\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">WPI Fellows are required to adhere to the following terms. Violations of these terms could result in termination from the program.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Prepare for and participate in all briefings and WPI scheduled events.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Stay through the entirety of program and return to home countries when the program ends.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Write for the WPI website among other outlets as assigned. Fellows are also encouraged to share with their readers, listeners or viewers back home.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Participate in periodic reviews and evaluations, including several roundtable discussions to share insights into the U.S. or international journalism issues.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Acceptance for others of different cultures.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Willingness to travel \u2013 the program locations change frequently, and fellows often live out of suitcases.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5 class=\"et_pb_toggle_title\">Letters of Recommendation<\/h5>\n<div class=\"et_pb_toggle_content clearfix\">\n<ul>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Applicants are required to submit the names and email addresses of three professional references.<\/span>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">References will be contacted by WPI to submit online letters of recommendation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">References should be familiar with the applicant\u2019s work and able to comment in English on their journalistic abilities, potential for growth and leadership abilities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">One reference should be a direct supervisor.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Letters must be in English and address the applicant\u2019s experience, qualifications and potential.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5 class=\"et_pb_toggle_title\">Work Samples<\/h5>\n<div class=\"et_pb_toggle_content clearfix\">\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">General<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">All samples must include a publication date; most should be within the last two years.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Include an English summary for all samples not in English.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">All work samples must be online and publicly accessible.<\/span>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Upload work samples to a publicly accessible online service, such as YouTube or Dropbox, if not directly available on a media website.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you are unable to use a public service, work samples can be uploaded with the online application.<\/span>\n<ul class=\"ul2\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Accepted file extensions: .pdf, .txt, .rtf, .doc, .mp3<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Accepted photo and other artwork extensions: .jpg\/.jpeg, .gif, or .pdf<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Print journalists<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Writers: Submit three samples of published work that has your byline.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Editors: Submit a statement describing your job. You may include copies of published work along with a description of your role in these samples. For published work, follow the instructions above.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Photographers: Submit a portfolio with five (5) published samples. Files with the following extensions are accepted: jpg\/jpeg, gif, or pdf.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Do not send complete newspapers, magazines, books, or unpublished manuscripts.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Broadcast journalists<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Links to work samples on YouTube, publicly shared Dropbox files and broadcasters\u2019 websites are accepted. Include a written synopsis in English of each work with a brief description of your involvement.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Please limit submissions to 15 minutes of programming.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Online journalists<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Samples should be equivalent to three print articles or 15 minutes of programming.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Provide a link if the segment is still online and outline your involvement with each sample.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Samples must be journalistic in nature and demonstrate that your job involves news gathering, writing, editing or producing.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>For more information please open this link<br \/>\nApply Here<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/worldpressinstitute.org\/how-to-apply\/\">https:\/\/worldpressinstitute.org\/how-to-apply\/<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Program cost<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">WPI pays the following program expenses:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Transportation<\/span>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Roundtrip airfare to the United States.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Travel within the United States related to the WPI program.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Lodging<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Food<\/span>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Fellows receive a modest daily allowance to purchase food.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Fellows are responsible for personal expenses, such as phone, camera, postage and clothing.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Why become a WPI Fellow?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Gain access to, engage in and observe the role, responsibility and impact of a free press firsthand in one of the world\u2019s largest, most diverse democracies. Through an immersive program, you will learn how the U.S. founding principles of a free press and journalistic best practices help foster transparency and accountability of government institutions, businesses and organizations, including the most powerful ones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In a guided tour across the country \u2013 including Chicago, New York City, Miami, Austin (Texas), San Francisco, and more \u2013 you will meet with and interview subject matter experts in media outlets, think tanks and advocacy organizations.
