ODI Fellows are typically employed as local civil servants reporting to local managers. Fellows work in a range of institutions from finance and planning ministries to ministries of health and education, as well as central banks, statistics offices, and regulatory bodies. Fellows receive a total package equivalent to GBP21,000 a year (increasing to GBP23,000 in the second year) plus a housing allowance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Expected qualifications and skills<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fellowships vary from job to job and country to country, but all require a combination of the following experience and personal qualities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The ODI fellowship scheme is open to candidates of all nationalities who have a master\u2019s degree or PhD in economics, statistics or a related field.<\/p>\n<p>Suitable specialised qualifications at postgraduate level include but aren\u2019t limited to agricultural economics, environmental economics, international economics, health economics, development economics, and econometrics and statistics.<\/p>\n<p>For those studying for a postgraduate degree at the time of application, the award of a fellowship is conditional upon the successful completion of the postgraduate degree.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Intellectual ability<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A sound grasp of economic and statistical theory and the ability to apply that knowledge to real world problems<\/li>\n<li>An ability to analyse data and information and to solve problems<\/li>\n<li>An ability to communicate complex technical ideas to non-specialists, both verbally and in writing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Personal qualities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Resilience and problem-solving skills to drive change and to work independently<\/li>\n<li>Interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and political acumen to work well within a diverse team, sometimes on politically sensitive topics<\/li>\n<li>Patience and humility to learn about new contexts and accept advice<\/li>\n<li>Adaptability and flexibility to work within a resource-constrained environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Management and work-related skills<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prioritise and delegate work<\/li>\n<li>Able to consult and advocate<\/li>\n<li>Good time management<\/li>\n<li>An ability to work without supervision<\/li>\n<li>Project management<\/li>\n<li>Report writing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applications are strengthened by a demonstrable interest in public policy, relevant work or voluntary experience and language proficiency (with English essential and French particularly advantageous) and strong IT skills.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deadline<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please note that the application process will close on\u00a0<strong>April 27th, 2022<\/strong>, and applications must be submitted by 23:59 (GMT) to be considered.
