3. Required application materials<\/h4>\n

Please prepare the application materials described below well in advance; upload in PDF or JPEG format.<\/p>\n

<\/td>\nAnswer the following two questions within 500 to 800 words in total:<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
<\/td>\nQ1.<\/td>\nWhy did you choose the laboratory that you did, and what do you hope to acquire from the\u00a0UTSIP experience? Be specific.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
<\/td>\nQ2.<\/td>\nDescribe how qualified you believe you are to conduct the research project in the laboratory you have chosen. Explain how you believe your experience and skills will enable you to successfully carry out the project.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
<\/td>\n<\/td>\nPrepare separate cover letter for each laboratory that you are applying for. You are allowed to apply up to 3 laboratories. Prepare a separate file for each laboratory of your choice and name each file with the name of the lab or professor to which you are applying to.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

<\/td>\nThe transcript should cover all the courses of your undergraduate level study up to the most recent completed academic period of study, and must be written in English or Japanese.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

\u25c6\u00a0Recommendation letter<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
<\/td>\nYour recommendation letter should be written by someone who can assess your current academic abilities well. For example a professor at your current university, a supervisor at your previous research internship.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

<\/td>\nYour supervisor or professor can send the recommendation letter directly to us via e-mail.<\/p>\n

\u25c6\u00a0Certificate of Registration<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/td>\nThis certificate validates your status as\u00a0a registered student at your university. There is no specific format for this. Verification will be taken of your name, name of your university and faculty, year and month of enrollment.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

\u25c6\u00a0Certificate of English proficiency<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
<\/td>\nTOEFL (iBT, PBT), IELTS, or TOEIC score sheet. The most recent score report should be submitted.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
<\/td>\nThe following applicants are exempted from submitting a TOEFL or IELTS score report:<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
<\/td>\n1.<\/td>\nApplicants who are nationals of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or the United States.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
<\/td>\n2.<\/td>\nApplicants who are students at a university in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or the United States.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
<\/td>\n3.<\/td>\nApplicants who are students at universities where English is the official language.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
<\/td>\n<\/td>\nIn case (3), applicants should upload\u00a0an official document issued by the university<\/strong>\u00a0attesting that English is the medium of instruction at the university.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

<\/td>\nPage with your picture (if you have one). If you do not have a passport, submit an alternative ID with your name, photo and date of birth.
\nSuccessful applicants who have not submitted a passport at the time of application must submit the abovementioned\u00a0 page by early April, 2022.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

4. Application deadline<\/h4>\n

January 7 (Friday), 2022 by 17:00 Japan time<\/strong><\/p>\n

After the due date, the online application website will become inaccessible. Until the due date, applicants can access the website anytime and change your application materials if necessary.<\/p>\n

5. Results<\/h4>\n

Successful participants are selected through a comprehensive assessment of all the submitted application materials. All participants will receive e-mail notification of the result of the assessment as well as the result of the participation fee waiver sometime between January 31 and February 2, 2022.<\/p>\n

Successful candidates must confirm their definite participation by replying within seven (7) days after being sent the result notification. If no reply is received within seven days for whatever reason, we will interpret the lack of response as a relinquishment of the UTSIP scholarship and participation in the program and will proceed to contact the next contenders.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

6. Possibility of cancellation<\/h4>\n

UTSIP 2022 may change depending on the situation of global COVID-19 pandemic. The criteria for change are as follows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
<\/td>\n1.<\/td>\nOn condition that the University of Tokyo\u2019s activity restrictions index level for preventing the spread of the corona virus is at level A or higher as of March 10th, 2022, the program will be conducted online.<\/p>\n

<\/td>\n2.<\/td>\nOn condition that the activity restriction index level is raised to level A or higher after Mach 10th, 2022, the program will be conducted online.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
<\/td>\n3.<\/td>\nOn condition that the activity restriction index is at level C or above, the program will be cancelled.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Participants will stay in Japan throughout the program under the \u201cshort-term stay\u201d visa status. Please understand that participants from countries that are subject to entry restrictions or activity restrictions after entry, as of April 1, will be asked to withdraw from participating in the UTSIP program.<\/p>\n
