Deadline\u00a0for submitted applications is\u00a028 October, 2021 (24:00 CET).<\/p>\n<p>All\u00a0applications must be submitted\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/onlineforms.twas.org\/apply\/171\">online<\/a>. In order to help you prepare, you can see our\u00a0application guidelines\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/owsd.net\/sites\/default\/files\/2022_OWSD_Awards_Application_Guidelines.pdf\"><u>here<\/u><\/a>\u00a0for your reference.<\/p>\n<p>The official language for the application is\u00a0English.<\/p>\n<p>If you are submitting any supporting documents (such as residency certificate, degree certificate, etc.) in a language which is not English, you\u00a0<u>must<\/u>\u00a0attach an (informal) translation into\u00a0English.\u00a0Documents in other languages with no accompanying English translation will not be considered.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subtitle\">Eligibility<\/h2>\n<p>The applicant must be a woman who has received her\u00a0PhD in a scientific discipline within the previous ten years\u00a0and whose current scientific research is related to the area of\u00a0<strong>climate action and the environment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Given that from 2022-2026 the awards will respond to the call for action set forth by the\u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/goals\">United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<\/a><\/u>, applicants must demonstrate how their research contributes to the advance of knowledge in the area of\u00a0<strong>climate action and the environment<\/strong>\u00a0and to achieving the\u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/climate-change\/\">SDG13 (Climate Action)<\/a><\/u>,\u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/oceans\/\">SDG14 (Life Below Water)<\/a><\/u>\u00a0and\/or\u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/biodiversity\/\">SDG15 (Life on Land)<\/a><\/u>.<\/p>\n<p>The application can include, but is not limited to, reference to\u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/climate-change\/\">SDG13<\/a><\/u>,\u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/oceans\/\">SDG14<\/a><\/u>\u00a0or\u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/biodiversity\/\">SDG15<\/a><\/u>\u00a0sub-targets, e.g.: effective climate change-related planning, protecting marine and coastal ecosystems, halt biodiversity loss, conserve and sustainably use ecosystems, strengthen resilience to climate-related hazards, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Eligible scientific fields:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Agricultural Sciences<\/li>\n<li>Astronomy, Space and Earth Sciences<\/li>\n<li>Biological Systems and Organisms<\/li>\n<li>Chemical Sciences<\/li>\n<li>Computing and Information Technology<\/li>\n<li>Engineering Sciences<\/li>\n<li>Mathematical Sciences<\/li>\n<li>Medical and Health Sciences (including Neurosciences)<\/li>\n<li>Physics<\/li>\n<li>Structural, Cell and Molecular Biology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Any combination of these fields (i.e. interdisciplinarity) is acceptable. The OWSD-Elsevier Foundation Awards are offered to women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Applications from women in Social sciences, Humanities, Arts or other are NOT eligible.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the applicant must have\u00a0<strong>lived and worked for at least 5 of the last 15 years*<\/strong>\u00a0in one of the\u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/owsd.net\/sites\/default\/files\/2022_OWSD_Awards_Eligible_STLC.pdf\">66 scientifically and technologically lagging countries (STLCs)<\/a><\/u>\u00a0listed here:<\/p>\n<p>Africa:\u00a0Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, C\u00f4te d&#8217;Ivoire, Dem. Rep. Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n<p>Arab Region:\u00a0Djibouti, Palestine (West Bank &amp; Gaza Strip), Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, Yemen.<\/p>\n<p>Asia &amp; Pacific:\u00a0Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Kiribati, Lao People&#8217;s Dem. The trip will be confirmed in the coming months according to how the COVID-19 pandemic evolves; it may be that the awards ceremony is celebrated online. Awardees will not be required to travel if they judge the situation to be unsafe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-placeholder=\"Translation\">The 5 awards will be distributed as follows: one for each of the four regions of the developing world (Africa, Arab region, Asia &amp; the Pacific and Latin America &amp; the Caribbean), plus an additional \u00a8floating\u201d award for an outstanding candidate from any of these regions.<\/p>\n<p><span tabindex=\"0\">Applications<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Applications for the 2022 awards are invited from women scientists who have made significant contributions in the area of \u2018Climate action and the environment\u2019, whose research is linked to the following Sustainable Development Goals:\u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/climate-change\">SDG13 (Climate Action)<\/a><\/u>,\u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/oceans\">SDG14 (Life Below Water)<\/a><\/u>\u00a0and\/or\u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/biodiversity\">SDG15 (Life on Land)<\/a><\/u>, and have lived and worked for at least 5 years in an\u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/owsd.net\/sites\/default\/files\/2022_OWSD_Awards_Eligible_STLC.pdf\">eligible STLC<\/a><\/u>.<\/p>\n<p>Applications must be made\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/onlineforms.twas.org\/apply\/171\"><u>online<\/u><\/a>, in English, and must include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Official documentation proving 5 years\u2019 residency in an eligible STLC .<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following documents can be submitted as proof of residence as long as the name of the applicant (as written in the online form) appears clearly: statement from the local police office or municipality, population registry office, rental agreement, utilities bills, employment contract. Since 2020, due to the COVID 19 pandemic and the impossibility of holding face-to-face meetings, we had the opportunity to draw on a broader pool of experts based also in the developing world. The Selection Panel is chaired by the OWSD Coordinator with full administrative support from the OWSD Secretariat.<\/p>\n<p>Assessment will be based on the applicant\u2019s achievements in her scientific field, with additional attention paid to evidence of leadership skills, initiative and innovation, as well as to the candidate\u2019s involvement in capacity building, outreach and civic contribution. Researches that demonstrate the use of innovative techniques or methodologies (especially with regard to sustainable development), an awareness of the\u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/genderaveda.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/gender-research-a-how-to-guide.pdf\">importance of sex and\/or gender considerations in research methodology and content<\/a><\/u>\u00a0and\/or interdisciplinary collaboration may be prioritised.<\/p>\n<p>Successful candidates will be informed of their selection by\u00a031 December 2021.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subtitle\"><a class=\"more button button-green\" title=\"This will take you to the application portal.
