Acesta este ciclul carbonului. In cursul acestor schimburi, cantitatea de gaz continuta de atmosferase poate modifica, iar aceasta modificare influenteaza clima. Anumite elemente ale planetei noastre absorb dioxid de carbon din atmosfera. Cel mai important din acestea e oceanul:in fiecare an el primeste 93 de gigatone de dioxid de carbon din atmosfera si restituie 90 gigatone. Plantele joaca la randul lor un rol important in circuitul carbonului pentru ca, datorita fotosintezei, ele absorb dioxid de carbon reducand concentratia acestuia din atmosfera. In schimb fintele emana o cantitate destul de mare de dioxid de carbon in atmosfera. Si eruptile vulcanice p[roduc dioxid de carbon.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: Times,&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"FR\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; De un secol se poate observa cresterea cantitatii de dioxid de carbon. Se considera ca aceasta crestere e provocata de o serie de activitati ale omului, ca defrisarea si arderea lemnului, a petrolului si carbunelui. Retin razele infrarosii si le reflecta spre suprafata Pamantului. Plantele extrag azotul de care au nevoie,prin radacinile lor, din sol, care contine amoniac sau ioni de amoniu si azotati.
