The railway arrived in <\/span>Brighton<\/span>, <\/span>East Sussex<\/span> in 1841, four years after Queen <\/span>Victoria<\/span> came to the throne, and it changed the town for ever. <\/span><\/div>\n

On a day in October 1833, a fleet of stagecoaches had bought 480 visitors to the town from <\/span>London<\/span>. That seemed a prodigious figure at the time, but on Easter Monday a single train bought all 1,100 holidaymakers down from <\/span>London<\/span> <\/span>Bridge<\/span>. <\/span><\/div>\n
