According to <a href=\"http:\/\/english.peopledaily.com.cn\/98649\/8529684.html\">People&#8217;s Daily<\/a>,  it started on January 20th and crossed the Sunda Strait, the Lombok  Strait, and the Makassar Strait in the training.  By today, the ships  were back at the naval base at Zhanjiang.  This exercise along with No.  546 (Yancheng)&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/voiceofrussia.com\/news\/2014_01_27\/Russian-Chinese-warships-start-joint-exercise-in-Mediterranean-Sea-8067\/\">recent training<\/a> with Kirov class Petr Velikiy are part of PLAN&#8217;s effort to become a blue water navy.
